Composer Roger Webb dies

Noted London film and television composer Roger Webb died in the U.K. on Dec. 19, 2002. Among Webb's dozens of credits were the Hammer Films thriller "The Godsend," the early Nicholas Cage-starrer, "The Boy in Blue" and the Jamie Lee Curtis telepic "Death of a Centerfold," based on the true story of murdered Playboy Playmate Dorothy Stratten.
An accomplished arranger, musical director and songwriter, Webb's career included stints with such top musical acts as Shirley Bassey, Johnny Mathis and Topol. He also served as musical director on stage shows for show business legends such as Bette Davis and Rex Harrison and on actress Beryl Reid's acclaimed revue, "A Little on the Side."

Webb also worked extensively composing music for commercials and on a number of children's theater projects such as "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," based on the acclaimed book by Roald Dahl. His Roger Webb Trio released several albums of jazz and modern updates of standards by Gershwin, Porter and Jerome Kern.
